چکیده

Background Salivary gland involvement is a hallmark of disease in primary Sjögren’s syndrome (pSS). This reflected by the prominent role positive biopsy within ACR-EULAR classification criteria, which solely based on focus score (FS) 1 . In pSS all salivary glands might be involved process. For this reason, both labial and parotid biopsies can used for diagnosis evaluation. Although nearly clinical centres obtain pSS, also safe effective procedure. Furthermore, it has comparable diagnostic potential associated with less morbidity, may even detect presence subclinical MALT lymphomas 2 However, histopathological differences between types should potentially taken into account. Objectives The aim study was to get insight minor (labial) major (parotid) patients comparison non-SS sicca patients. Methods Both were obtained from 99 According expert opinion three experienced rheumatologists, 36 classified as 63 formalin fixed, paraffine embedded serially sectioned at 3-4µm. Sections stained H&E CD3, CD20, CD45, hmwCK, CD21, Bcl6, IgA/IgG IgM. Focus (FS), relative area lymphocytic infiltrate, level lymphoid organization plasma cell shift determined. addition, number lymphoepithelial lesions, germinal centers, follicular dendritic networks, B-cells T-cells analyzed. Results All parameters differed significantly sections. Comparison two revealed more signs inflammation shown higher FS, CD3 + T-cells, CD20 CD45 infiltrates compared biopsies. Other glands. patients, FS observed Nevertheless, absolute B-cell counts, GCs/mm LELs/mm parenchyma. Conclusion shows (unspecific) hyperactivity, such B-cells, , are pronounced, These consideration disease. Standardisation of labial salivary gland histopathology in clinical trials in primary Sjögren's syndrome

Labial salivary gland (LSG) biopsy is used in the classification of primary Sjögren's syndrome (PSS) and in patient stratification in clinical trials. It may also function as a biomarker. The acquisition of tissue and histological interpretation is variable and needs to be standardised for use in clinical trials. A modified European League Against Rheumatism consensus guideline development stra...

Follow up study of labial salivary gland lesions in primary Sjögren's syndrome.

Labial salivary gland biopsy samples were taken from 27 patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome (SS), 10 with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and secondary SS, and four normal control subjects on two occasions at intervals of more than one year. In the former group of patients, eight of the nine initially negative analyses were positive on the second sample, whereas two of the seven patients with RA...

Labial salivary gland biopsy in Sjögren's disease.

A labial biopsy technique is described and was used to study 40 patients with connective tissue disease and 60 postmortem subjects. More than one focus of lymphocytes per 4 sq mm of minor salivary tissue was found to be a consistent finding in patients with Sjögren's disease. The labial biopsy is shown to be a further valuable investigative procedure in such patients.

The Histopathology of Labial Salivary Glands in Primary Sjögren's Syndrome: Focusing on Follicular Helper T Cells in the Inflammatory Infiltrates

Recently, we revealed the importance of follicular helper T cells (T(FH)) in the pathogenesis of primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS). In the present study, we focused on the site of the inflammation and determined the composition of lymphocyte infiltration in labial salivary gland (LSG) biopsies with special emphasis on T(FH) and germinal center B cells. We selected tissue blocks obtained from ten...

Comment on: parotid gland biopsy compared with labial biopsy in the diagnosis of patients with primary Sjogren's Syndrome.

OBJECTIVE To assess the value of the parotid biopsy as a diagnostic tool for primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS), and to compare the parotid biopsy and the labial biopsy with regard to diagnostic value and biopsy-related morbidity. METHODS In 15 consecutive patients with pSS and 20 controls, the parotid biopsy was assessed as a diagnostic tool based on the presence of lymphocytic foci, benign ly...
